Veterans construct ramp for fellow VFW member

RITZVILLE – A local veteran was assisted with remaining mobile when several fellow veterans built a 22-foot wheelchair ramp on the side of his house.

VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) Commissioner Jeff Kissler said he and Mike Mills and Bill Sager were able to purchase the lumber from a Caring Neighbors Grant from Big Bend Electric.

"ACE Hardware donated some materials for it," Kissler said.

They started the project Saturday, April 17, working nine hours before finishing up after another four hours Sunday morning.

Kissler said any veteran in need of assistance can reach him by email at [email protected].

"We can purchase or build items needed for medical necessity, such as a handle in the shower," Kissler said.
