Broncos win several events at Jamboree, league meet

Will host league meet Saturday, April 24

COLFAX — Lind-Ritzville athletes came away with several first-place finishes in the Colfax Track and Field Jamboree Tuesday, April 13.

Competing with Lind-Ritzville and Colfax were Asotin and Liberty (Spangle).

Sophomore Hayen Melcher took first in the 100 meters race, finishing in 12.67. Freshman Brock Kinch took second, at 12.92.

Eli Michels, a junior, took first in the 1600 meters, at 5:33.39, a personal record.

For the girls, senior Janaye Wilkie took first place in High Jump with a personal record of 4'10". Wilkie's jump was four inches over the second-place finisher. Hailey Demler, a Colfax freshman, took second place at 4'6".

Wilkie also took first in Long Jump, with a personal record of 15'4.5".

The Broncos host a league meet Saturday, April 24, starting at noon. Watch for photos and results in the Ritzville Adams County Journal.

Boys:

100 Meters: senior Douglas Morris, fourth place at 13.31.

200 Meters: Morris, third place at 27.04; freshman Shawn Steinberger, fourth place at 27.28.

800 Meters: Bronc Hutsell, third place at 2:38.08.

3200 Meters: Heater, second place at 13:48.00; and Davis, third place at 14:08.80.

Javelin - 800 g: Michels, third place at 100'04".

Long Jump: Melcher, third place at 17'05.50"; freshman Shawn Steinberger, fourth place at 17'03.00".

Team scores were Colfax, 172; Liberty (Spangle) 114; Lind-Ritzville, 97; and Asotin, 96.

Girls:

100 Meters: junior Sydney Kinch, second place at 14.39.

Shot Put - 4 kg: sophomore Myra Miller, third place at 29'08.50"; senior Brynne Nelson, fourth place at 28'06.50.

Discus - 1 kg: Miller, third place at 91'00".

Javeline - 600 g: Billingmeier, second place at 64'03"; Nelson, third place at 62'08".

Team scores were Colfax, 157; Asotin, 145.5; Liberty (Spangle) 83.5; and Lind-Ritzville, 65.

At a NE 2B League Meet in Vollmer Bowl, Lewiston Saturday, April 17, Hayden Melcher again took first place in the boys' 100 Meters (11.91) among 21 runners, and Brock Kinch took fifth, at 12.72.

Sydney Kinch took second place in the girls' (13.47) 100 Meters, behind St. George's Fair Niven, also a junior, who finished at 12.79.

Sydney Kinch took third place in the 200 Meters, at 28.38. Niven again took first (26.24), followed by teammate Reagan Ivey at 27.84.

The boys' 4 x 100 Relay team of Doug Morris, Shawn Steinberger, Brock Kinch, and Hayden Melcher took first at 47.48. The Colfax team took second at 47.76.

Sam Michels took third in the 3200 Meters, at 12:54.09.

In field events, Myra Miller took second place in Shot Put with a throw of 30'00.50 inches, behind Asotin's Haylee Appleford at 35'04.50".

Miller took first in Discus, with a 114'02" throw, far ahead of second-place Appleford at 108'10".

Senior Brynne Nelson took fifth in both Shot Put (27'08") and Javelin (65'09").

Senior Janaye Wilkie took second in High Jump at 4'10", a full six inches higher than Chewelah's Sabrina Sharp in third place. Colfax freshman Hailey Demler took first at 5'0".

The Bronco girls took first and second in Long Jump, with both Wilkie and Kinch recorded at 15'06.50". Asotin senior Kenlie Connor placed third at 14'11.50".
