Murder trial continued to April

RITZVILLE – A jury trial in the case of Grayson Douglas Wrae Morris scheduled for February 23 has been continued by Superior Court Judge Steve Dixon to April 27.

Morris is being held in Adams County Jail on $3 million bail. Morris is charged with one count of murder in the first degree and one count of burglary in the first degree with a firearm enhancement.

Morris, 27, is the prime suspect in the May 14, 2020 shooting death of his father, Douglas Morris at his home in Ritzville. Morris allegedly drove a stolen 2019 Ford Escape to his father’s house around 5:30 a.m., kicked in the door and proceeded to shoot his father in the bedroom where he was sleeping.

Morris allegedly then drove to Oregon, where he was taken into custody later that morning near Troutdale after allegedly shooting at police and carjacking a second vehicle at gunpoint when the first stolen vehicle ran out of gas.

Morris was charged in Multnomah County Court with one count of robbery in the first degree with a firearm, one count of unlawful use of a vehicle with a firearm, one count of felony attempting to elude a police officer, one count of reckless driving and one count of recklessly endangering another person.

Morris was also charged with four counts of attempted aggravated murder in Hood River County, where he allegedly fired at police during the high-speed chase on Interstate 84 that ended with his capture near Troutdale.

Morris was extradited back to Washington state July 16 on a Governor’s Warrant of Arrest and Extradition.

Morris is represented by public defender Kyle Smith, who filed the motion for continuance of trial.
