GOVERNMENT URGES HABIT OF THRIFT

Today is Benjamin Franklin’s birthday. It also marks the beginning nationally of Thrift Week, which is sponsored throughout the country by the Young Men’s Christian Association and is being supported by the Savings Division of the Treasury Department. The Government’s particular interest this week lies in the fact the its sales of Savings securities are determined by the thriftiness of the American people. The government is still in need of money, and its sales of these securities form an important part of its post-war financing.

Wrecking Yards Get 30 Days

Perpetrators of public nuisances, long-time eyesores in Ritzville, got another 30 or 90 days in a showdown, show-cause hearing Tuesday night at city hall. Pete Greenwalt and Emmanuel Haag wiggled and squirmed, raised their voices and “talked in circles” as councilmen tried to pin them down on cleaning up auto junkyards, termed fire hazards and dangerous to the public health and welfare.

Accident claims stolen vehicle

Two males were arrested and a female juvenile transported to Grant County Juvenile following a Friday morning accident five miles east of Ritzville on Interstate 90. Micheal H. Inness, 18, of Sedro Wooley, was eastbound driving a 1987 Nissan station wagon at 11:15 a.m. when he apparently fell asleep. The vehicle drifted off the road to the right where it struck a rock wall and rolled. A subsequent investigation by Trooper Ryan Spangler revealed the vehicle had been stolen out of Sedro Wooley and also had been involved in burglary at that location.
