Students gather food

Principal to take pie in the face

The Washtucna School principal will be getting a pie in the face, Thursday, Dec. 17. after students were able to collect more than 400 pounds of food for the Washtucna Food Bank.

As of the end of last week, the students had collected over 635 pounds of canned goods.

Principal Michael Amend said it was an extra special show of generosity, in a school district where the majority of students were on free or reduced lunches.

At 500 pounds, the students were able to select a second teacher to get “pied.”

With the students hitting the 600-pound mark, Amend and teacher Staci Gloyn will not only get pies in the face, but will have to wear the other’s team colors. Gloyn is a Cougar fan and Amend a Husky fan.

And if they’re able to collect 1,000 pounds by Dec. 16, students will get an extra hour added to their Christmas break.
