Casting a vote for current Lind mayor

I would like to make a formal acknowledgement of our Mayor of Lind, Jamie Schmunk, and thank her for all the wonderful things she has accomplished for our little town!

I also fully support her in this election and ask all in our town to show their support by voting for her too!

Jamie brought many grants to our town and worked hard to make the matching funds we have sometimes had to come up with the least amount of impact as possible.

The wastewater funding was truly amazing to get such a high grant – rates never before seen in this state!

The storm water project, which we really needed to protect the integrity of our water treatment plant, has been amazing in its low rates of matching.

And now, with the grant from FEMA to repair our roads and getting the matching funds all but wiped out with another grant she has really out done herself!

These kinds of things take hard work to go out and pursue and she does a lot of the networking required to do this on her own time with much of it having to take off from her paying job to do it.

Paula Bell speaks of wanting to improve the infrastructure in our town and yet her voting record shows just the opposite.

Voting against the storm water project does not save money in the long run. It is needed to protect our new treatment plant.

The Department of Ecology would not have recommended it for preventive measures and given us the money if it did not see it as necessary.

Voting against any money spent on the airport is not prudent either as has been done by the other candidate.

Voting records are public records that you can go check out.

Our previous mayor got a grant for $500,000 for work on the airport in 2005 with the stipulation that the airport be maintained for at least 20 years or else the town would be obligated to pay that money back.

To maintain and keep improving the airport the state has granted our town 95 percent grant monies with a match of 5 percent, which Jamie explained is pretty much covered by hanger rentals and wheat grown on the property.

Previous councils had approved these grants and committed to the work that needed to be done. Bell voted every time not to pay that bill.

Not paying for work already completed would put Lind into arrears of a half million dollars. Another situation that we are faced with now is possibly losing our town’s insurance.

The complaints from the town employees of hostile work environment is from harassment from the town council, not the mayor.

Do we really want to put candidates like that into a leadership position? I think not.

Consider public record, come to council meetings, talk to the candidates and make a truly informed choice! I have done my homework and my choice is Jamie Schmunk!

PJ Jacobsen, Lind
