Jantz, Shields place in the top three during on the road golf matches

The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague golf team has been making large strides towards improvement after competing in three away matches.

The team traveled to Colville on Tuesday, April 11, to face Colfax, Davenport, Wilbur-Creston, Northwest Christian, Odessa-Harrington, St. George’s and Tekoa-Rosalia in a league top six match.

Tessa Jantz, Ellie Gering, Morgan Lane and Brinley Moore comepted for the Broncos girls’ team.

Jantz led the girls’ team with a score 80. Gering shot 109, while Moore and Lane earned scores of 114 and 118.

For Jantz, the individual score allowed her to earn second place in the match.

The boys who competed in the match were Michael Shields, Morgan Brausen, Dirk Dahlman, Spencer Gering, Easton Nelson and Devin Schafer.

Shields shot an 84, Brausen earned a score of 94 and Nelson shot a 99.

Dahlman claimed a score of 103, while Gering trailed with a 104 and Schafer shot a 116.

Head Coach Nick Weishaar said he is proud of how Jantz competed as she set a personal record with a score of 80 in 18 holes and finished in second for individuals.

He said her short game continues to improve, which is evident in her scores.

The team’s match at the Fairways Golf Course on Tuesday, April 18, was cancelled due to weather conditions.

They traveled to Clarkston for an Asotin hosted match on Thursday, April 20.

The schools competing in the match were Asotin, Colfax, Northwest Christian, Tekoa-Rosalia, St. George’s and Wilbur-Creston.

Jantz, Gering and Aaliyah Yaeger competed in the match for the girls’ team. Jantz shot an 88, Gering had a score of 117 and Yaeger scored 120.

The boys who competed in the match were Shields, Brausen, Gering, Dahlman, Nelson and Schafer.

Shields led the boys’ team with a score of 87 and Brausen earned a 95.

Dahlman shot a 101 and Nelson trailed close behind with 103.

Gering earned a score of 109 and Schafer shot a 115.

The boys’ earned a team score of 495, allowing them to take third place as a team.

Weishaar said he has enjoyed watching the young athletes grow and improve their skills as the season progresses.

Veteran athletes Jantz and Shields continue to play well, and act as anchors for the team by showcasing leadership in practices and matches, he explained.

The Broncos golf team then traveled to Deer Park on Monday, April 24, to compete in a match with the top six teams.

Shields, Brausen, Gering, Nelson and Schafer were the athletes who competed for the boys’ team.

Shields led the team with a score of 77, Brausen shot a 94 and Nelson trailed close behind with 98.

Gering shot a 106 and Schafer earned a score of 113.

Weishaar said Shields competed very well in the match and showcased advanced skill on the course.

He claimed third place for the boys’ teams.

For the girl’s team, Yaeger shot a 112 and Moore earned a score of 130.

Weishaar said he is pleased with how the team competed and stated they all showcased solid technique on the green.

The younger athletes continue to impress them with their constant improvement and hard work in practice.
