Former Superior Court Judge endorses Benzel

The citizens of Ritzville, Adams County, are fortunate to have Carolyn Benzel as a candidate for District Court Judge. Not every attorney has the qualities of a good judge. Carolyn Benzel would make an exceptional judge.

To be an effective judge, it is desirable, if not necessary, to have had vast experience practicing in court before other judges. I observed Ms. Benzel for twelve years as she practiced before the three superior courts of Grant County.

Carolyn Benzel was always well prepared and conversant with the law such as evidence law, which is used extensively in court. Moreover she demonstrated the disposition necessary to be a judge. Often, tensions build up in court. I noted that she would make an effort to defuse those situations, sometimes with a little humor, in order to continue the discussion more calmly.

Often judges have to assess the credibility of witnesses. This requires an open mind and a good deal of common sense. After working for years in the prosecutors office, Benzel has the disposition and the experience to make these critical witness assessments.

I also noted that Carolyn Benzel understands and is part of the people of rural communities. Her life style reflects ethical principles; she would be a good example for the youth of the county.
