Amy Whipple: New teachers join staff at local schools

The third and fourth grade classes in Washtucna greeted new teacher Amy Whipple to the classroom and the school district. Whipple is originally from Sprague and currently resides in Pullman.

Whipple received her bachelor’s degree and professional teaching certificate from Eastern Washington University. She has spent the past three years teaching in the Royal City School District. Before teaching, she did her student observation for a year and a half in the Medical Lake School District.

With 19 students in the combined third and fourth grade classes, Whipple appreciates the opportunity to work with each student individually. The adjustment to a small school has not fazed Whipple and she enjoys the opportunities it has provided for her.

Through the mentor program in the Washtucna School District, Whipple serves as the mentor for a seventh grade student. Whipple is impressed by the program because of its dedication to student success, as well as the success of the school.

“I’ve noticed how much it feels like a family to ensure the kids can succeed,” Whipple said. “Everyone is making me a part of the family.”

Whipple’s focus as an educator is to provide each student with the necessary tools to be successful in the classroom. Even though Whipple has to divide her time between the two grade levels, she said the students have been extremely helpful and understand what is expected of them as students.
