PB&J campaign launched for food pantry

The Mission Board of Zion Philadelphia United Church of Christ would like to invite other area churches, community groups, businesses and individuals to join with us as we attempt to meet a community goal of collecting 1,111 jars of peanut butter and 1,111 jars of jelly for the Ritzville Food Pantry, our local food bank, by Nov. 11, 2011.

This effort is a local response to a nationwide UCC commitment to collecting one million items of healthy food for local food banks and shelters across the United States between Nov. 1, 2011, and Nov. 11, 2011.

These food choices were selected by Ritzville Food Pantry staff as a high priority in assisting local families. Peanut butter and jelly are nutritious, high protein items that are liked by most children and adults and are simple to prepare for persons of almost all ages and abilities.

The Ritzville Food Pantry reports that over 3,500 households from Ritzville, Lind, Washtucna and the surrounding areas have been served by the food bank so far in 2011. Groups and individuals throughout these communities are encouraged to collect items and perhaps even to challenge others in a contest of giving.

Collected food items can be delivered directly to the Ritzville Food Pantry on Wednesdays between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. or to Zion Philadelphia UCC at 301 E. Broadway, Ritzville. If you are unable to deliver the items, contact Zion Philadelphia for pick up (in the Ritzville area) at 659-1440.

By working together we can make a huge impact on hunger in our own little part of the world. Please consider donating a jar or two of peanut butter and/or jelly to this worthy cause. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Board of Missions – Zion Philadelphia United Church of Christ: Leslie Spencer, JoAnn Shockley, Diane Eastman, Karen Potts
