Support fire levy lift in November

As a volunteer firefighter with Adams County Fire District No. 5, I’m proud to serve this community—and I also see firsthand the challenges we’re facing.

Losing the city contract next year means more than half our budget disappears overnight. We’re already making deep cuts—delaying apparatus replacements, cancelling facility upgrades and tightening expenses everywhere we can.

But we can’t cut our way out of higher call volumes or the skyrocketing cost of the gear and supplies we need to respond.

On top of that, there are costs we don’t get to choose—state requirements, insurance and other expenses we have to pay to keep providing emergency service. Those bills keep coming in, no matter what.

That’s why I’m grateful our Board of Fire District Commissioners voted to place a fire levy lid lift on the ballot this November. If approved, it will help bridge the gap so we can keep delivering the level of service our residents count on, while also moving forward on some much-needed improvements.

This funding means we can cover rising costs for essentials like dispatch, protective gear, and equipment—and keep enough firefighters ready to respond when emergencies happen.

I hope residents will take a moment to learn more about the levy lid lift at acfd5.com/fire-levy-lid-lift.

Stay safe,

Lt. Loren Jenson, County Fire District #5
