Irish sweep Broncos in doubleheader

RITZVILLE — The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos (0-2) opened the boys baseball season Saturday, March 18, dropping a doubleheader to the DeSales Catholic Fighting Irish (2-0).

DeSales won the opener 21-2 and the nightcap, 16-8. Individual statistics were not reported.

The Crusaders sealed the victory in the sixth inning with 14 runs.

In the nightcap, the Bronco boys looked for a win, taking a 7-1 lead by the fifth inning.

But the Fighting Irish rallied for seven runs in the sixth and seventh innings to take the win.

The boys are on the road this week for a doubleheader in Colbert.

The Broncos will travel Saturday, March 25, to Northwest Christian to face the Crusaders.

The opener is at noon and the second game at 2 p.m.

The Crusaders are entering the game with only an exhibition against the Freeman Scotties’ junior-varsity team under their belt this season.
