Three wrestlers win medals

Rosman, Smith grab silver, Gibler bronze

RITZVILLE - Two Lind-Ritzville/Sprague wrestlers won silver and another bronze at their home Bronco Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 21.

Waylon Rosman took second at 113 pounds and Gabe Smith second at 18 2.

Wyatt Gibler finished third at 106 pounds.

In Round Robin competition, Rosman won his silver after opening with a loss to Jaxon Chantry of Selkirk with a pin at 2:30. In his final match, he pinned Everett Noah of Davenport in 3:53.

For Smith, an overtime win over Brock Gustaveson of Davenport propellened him into the finals. He won the match, 10-8, with an overtime takedown to break the tie. In his second match, Smith lost a 3-2 decision to John Pierce of Almira-Coulee/Hartline.

The Broncos only bronze was won by Gibler, who pinned Kashes Somday of Republic in 3:28 to open the tournament. In the semifinals, Gibler lost by pin in 4:07 to Spencer Duty of Selkirk.


In the match for third-place, Gibler pinned Forrest Royal of Inchelium in 3:27 to win the bronze.

Other local wrestlers competing in the Bronco Invite include

Kaleb Kuykendall at 126 pounds. He was pinned by Julian Zuniga of Ferris in 46 seconds in his opening match and then by Walker Montgomery of Garfield-Palouse in 1:27.

Pete Spain wrestled at 152 pounds, where he was pinned by Reilly McManus of Ferris in 1:01 in his first bout and then by Nathan Rasmussen of Selkirk in 5:46 in a consolation round.

Travis Redburn and Carson Kubik both wrestled at 170 for the Broncos.

Redburn opened with a major decision win over his teammate, Kubik, 15-5, to advance to the quarterfinals.

Redburn was then pinned by Dorien Cano or Ranier in 3:22, but bounced back in the consolation round to pin Brady Gough of Wilbur-Creston in 35 seconds.

In his final match of the day, Redburn lost a 12-9 decsion to Noah Butler of Almira-Coulee/Hartline.

Meanwhile, Kubik was eliminated in his second match, when he was pinned by Noah Porter of Ferris in 3:14.

At 285 pounds, Brock Tracy opened with a loss for the Broncos, being pinned in 40 seconds by Ryder Cruse or Rainier.

In the consolation round, he pinned Fred Morris of Jenkins (Chewelah) in 29 seconds, before losing a 9-3 decision to Ashton Callahan of Ferris.

As a team, the Broncos finished 11th overall out of 16 teams.

The Broncos had 29 team points; Ferris won the team title with 150 points, followed by Jenkins with 149.5.

Davenport and Rainier tied for third with 129 team points each.

The Broncos will host the league team dual tournament this Saturday in Gilson Gymnasium.
