RITZVILLE - A late, come-from-behind effort lifted the Broncos boys football team to a Homecoming victory over the Jenkins (Chewelah) Cougars on Friday, Oct. 7 in a Northeast 2B matchup.
The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague/Washtucna/Harrington boys (5-1) grabbed a 25-18 victory after scoring on an 11-play, 97-yard drive in the fourth quarter.
Senior quarterback Chase Galbreath scored a TD on a dive play. Senior running back Brody Boness added a 2-point conversion for the final score with 1:04 left in the game.
In the last minute of the game, the driving Cougars were halted when defensive back Jayce Kelly intercepted a pass.
It was his third interception of the night.
While the game ended in success for the Broncos, the game was a back-and-forth battle.
The Cougars scored in the first quarter, but couldn't convert and took a 6-0 lead into the second stanza.
With 7:50 left in the half, the Broncos scored on a senior Brock Kinch 6-yard scamper and added a PAT to take a 7-6 lead.
The Cougars answered with 3:00 minutes in the half with another TD and failed conversion.
But the Broncos weren't done, yet, and freshman Ledger Kelly booted a 26-yeard field goal late in the half.
At the break, Jenkins led Lind-Ritzville/Sprague, 12-10.
The field goal gave the Broncos momentum coming into the third quarter.
Three plays into the third quarter, Kinch broke free for 64 yards and a TD with 10:45 left in the quarter.
The PAT was good and the Broncos had a 17-12 lead at the end of three quarters.
In the final stanza, Jenkins posted another TD, but failed to convert to take an 18-17 lead.
That's when the Broncos got down and dirty, driving 97 yards to win the game.
