Broncos split with Colfax

Colfax wins first game 14-6, losing 6-5 in the second

RITZVILLE – The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague/Washtucna Bronco boys baseball team wrapped up the regular season splitting a doubleheader with the Colfax Bulldogs on Friday, May 6.

The games originally scheduled for Thursday, May 5, were postponed due to rain.

In the first game, the Broncos were beaten 14 - 6 by Colfax. Ryan Henning had three RBIs for the Bulldogs.

In the second game, the Broncos scored 6 runs in 4 innings and held on for a 6-5 win.

Chase Galbreath went 2-for-3, with two runs scored and two RBIs for the Broncos. The team ended the regular season with a record of 9 wins and 12 losses.

This week, the Broncos turn their attention to the district playoffs.

Games began Tuesday, May 10, at Northwest Christian (Colbert) and will wrap up May 14 at Whitworth University in Spokane.

The Broncos enter the playoffs as the No. 7 district seed in the eight-team bracket.

The Broncos were slated to face off with the Northwest Christian Crusaders, the No. 2 seed, at 11 a.m. Tuesday in a loser-out contest.

The game was played after the newspaper went to press.

The winner of the Lind-Ritzville vs. Northwest Chrisitian game advances to the semininals against the winner of the Reardan vs. Asotin game.

That semifinal game was set for 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 10.

The Top 3 teams advance to State.

Cross-bracket, No. 1-seeded Jenkins (Chewelah) was scheduled to play Davenport at 11 a.m. and No. 4 Colfax was to take on No. 5 Kettle Falls at 1:30 p.m.

The winners of the semifinals advance to play in the finals at noon May 14, with both teams advancing to the state playoffs. The semifinal losers face off for the final state berth at 3 p.m., May 14.
