Jail man as suspect

Sheriff Rider and Deputy G. N. McCollom arrested Albert Gahr at a local pool hall Saturday night, suspecting that he might be one of the two men wanted for the hold-up of the Spangle Bank on October 4th last.

He was taken to Spokane on Tuesday afternoon by Deputy Sheriff McEwen, where he is held pending a further investigation. Gahr admits he was in the vicinity of Spokane on the day of the robbery, but claims he was going to Espanola, which is not far from Spangle.

Gahr has been under surveillance for some time. He has come to Ritzville at intervals for the past several years, some times remaining for awhile and then being gone a long time.

Hatton couple hurt in

freak accident Monday

Mr. and Mrs. Norman Wirth were injured Monday forenoon when their car collided with a G. M. C. panel truck one half mile south of the Johnson Brothers' ranch on the Connell road.

Charles English of Moses Lake was the driver and only occupant of the truck.

The two vehicles met in a head-on colission in a dense cloud of smoke caused by the burning of weeds along the county road.

Mr. Wirth suffered a fractured breast bone and Mrs. Wirth a broken ankle and nose, besides lacerations of the nose and forehead.

Snow fighters win battle;

schools close 2 days

Ritzville area residents had battled through a week's severe snowstorm when yesterday afternoon the sun burst forth from earlier freezing fog, lending promise of improved travel conditions on streets and roads.

The storms first effects were noted Wednesday afternoon when schools here closed two hours early, permitting buses to safely return children home before dark.

The storm made school's opening a planned one-hour late Thursday morning of last week. The storm slacked for a day or two and returned Saturday to the area north of here with a fury.

Monday, according to Supt. Ken White, the school district ran what routes road conditions permitted. That afternoon school dismissed an hour early, at 2:30 p.m. to send children safely home who live in the country.

Student survey shows interest in combining 3 spring sports

Lind High School may join with Odessa High School for three spring sports if details can be worked out.

Junior-senior high school principal Oscar Undeberg told the Lind School Baord at its Nov. 25 meeting that a recent student survey showed 16 students tentatively interested in participating in track; 14 in tennis and six in golf.

Lind would still participate in the Bi-County League while it was noted that spring sports combine both "A" and "B" leagues for final competitions. The board directed undeberg to work out the details with the Odessa School District and submit a report at a later date.
