A photo from 50 years ago – Teacher and Grandchildren: Mrs. Agnes Shawgo stands in a kindergarten room at Washtucna school she used for many years. With her are her four grandchildren. Brian McCall, seated at left, is working on his master's degree at the University of Idaho while teaching at Pullman High school. Rodney, next to Brian, is a junior at Washington State University. Neil is a freshman in high school in Endicott and Evelyn is a sixth-grader there. The four are children of Mr. and Mrs. Kirk McCall, Winona.

To complete road at Lind

Mitchell Bros. were awarded the contract for surfacing five and three quarters miles of the Central Washington Highway south from Lind by the board of county commissioners on Tuesday afternoon. There were seven bids presented, the competition being unusually keen.

During the war years some times there were very few bidders on road jobs, but now conditions are more settled, the risks to contractors are not so great, work has lessoned considerably so there is more competition among bidders.
