Juanita "Nita" L. Polda

March 23, 1929 – Nov. 6, 2021

Juanita “Nita” L. Polda passed away peacefully in her home in Lamont, Wash. on Nov. 6, 2021. She was born in Sprague, Wash. on March 23, 1929 to Louise and Kon Lamparter. She was the oldest of four children.

After graduating from Sprague High School, she married Gilbert “Gib” Polda. They settled in Lamont, Wash. where they raised their four children: Kris Ann, David, Matt and Tim. Nita worked for many years at the Lamont Grain Growers as a bookkeeper and receptionist. She was an active member of the Lamont community, including serving as the town mayor for several years. She was a lifetime member and dedicated parish member at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sprague, where her lemon meringue pies were a favorite at the annual sausage feed.

Nita is survived by her sisters, Myrna Rehn and Gwen Scroggie; her four children; grandchildren Anastasia, Tori, Doug and Brock; and two great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gib Polda, and her brother, Kon Allen.

Nita spent all of her 92 years in the Lamont and neighboring Sprague communities but was able to travel to Hawaii, England, New York City, Washington, DC, Italy and Switzerland, often accompanied by her close friend Betty Stone. But having seen other parts of the world, she still found her hometown the best place to be.

Nita loved a cup of hot coffee on a summer morning in her flower garden. In times past she enjoyed trips to Spokane where she could shop for fabric or flowers for her garden. She was a generous, thoughtful, dependable, and forgiving friend and relative, who wanted a more just and peaceful world. Her life was an example of how these goals could be achieved. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service will be scheduled later. Memorials in Nita’s name can be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sprague, Wash., Prevent Homeless Pets in Benton City, Wash. (https://preventhomelesspets.org/) or Second Harvest in Spokane, Wash. (https://2-harvest.org/).
