RITZVILLE – The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague/Washtucna varsity girls volleyball team won a berth in the state Class 2B tournament Nov. 3 by beating Liberty (Spangle) in 5 sets.

Set scores are 17-25, 25-22, 25-20, 18-25 and 15-8.

"This was the toughest match of season because it was such a pivotal game" Coach Cari Galbreath said. "Liberty is always tough. We trusted what works."

Sophomore Megan Melcher ended the match with consecutive serves that Liberty could not return.

Broncos girls volleyball Coach Cari Galbreath stands with her team after being announced as Coach of the Year during the District 7 tournament last week.

"Two aces at the end put it away," Galbreath said.

Senior Sydney Kinch had 15 kills and 6 blocks in the match.

Junior Taylor Galbreath also had 15 kills.

That win propelled The Broncos girls into the District 7 championship game Nov. 4 against No. 1 seed Colfax.

The Broncos lost in straight sets: 25-12, 25-17 and 25-17.

Both teams qualify for the state tournament, which begins Thursday, Nov. 11, in the Yakima Valley SunDome, 1301 S. Fair Ave., Yakima.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague is the No. 10 seed in the tournament and will face No. 7 seed Raymond at 9:45 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 11.

The winning team will play the winner of the game between No. 15 seed Wahkiakum and No. 2 seed Colfax. That game is at 3:15 p.m. the same day.

The losers of the two games will face off in a loser-out match, also at 3:15 p.m.
