Lind-Ritzville hosts football jamboree

RITZVILLE – The LRS Bronco football team got a taste of live action Saturday, August 28, in a football Jamboree against teams from around the region. Under the scrimmage format offenses take the ball on the opponent 40 yard line, and run 10 plays. If they do not make a first down (gain 10 yards) in 4 plays the ball is returned to the 40, and a new drive begins. After 10 plays the teams switch sides of the ball, and the defensive teams goes on offense.

In the varsity portion of the event the Broncos had a good defensive series versus Medical Lake, intercepting a couple of passes. Asked if the defense was a little ahead of the offense at this point in the season, Head Coach Greg Whitmore said "no, I like our offense. We were very effective in our first session." In the junior varsity portion the offense scored 2 rushing touchdowns, and 1 passing touchdown against a defensive squad from Dayton-Waitsburg.

The coaching staff explained some questions were answered during the afternoon, but other questions were raised. Now they have some film to look at. "It's a teaching moment" said Whitmore.

On Friday, September 3, Whitmore begins his 15th season as head coach when the Broncos host Liberty (Spangle) High School. "They are really good" said Whitmore, "we are excited for the Friday night lights." The game kicks off at 7 PM.
