Eastern Adams County's Only Independent Voice Since 1887

New heat wave on its way

RITZVILLE – It’s about to get hot, again.

The National Weather Service has issued a new excessive heat watch for most of Eastern Washington, and Ritzville is in the center of the heat map.

The next excessive heat watch runs from Thursday afternoon through Sunday evening.

“Dangerously hot conditions with afternoon temperatures in the upper-90s to 106 degrees possible,” an advisory from the weather agency said Monday, Aug. 9.

The hot temperatures are expected across most of Eastern Washington and portions of north-central Idaho.

“Extreme heat combined with unusually warm overnight temperatures will significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses,” the agency said, advising residents to remain in air-conditioned buildings whenever possible.

The forecast for Adams County is for daytime highs of about 99 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday, before rising to 103 degrees Friday and Saturday, the weather agency said.

Overnight lows are expected to remain about 67 degrees through the rest of the week.

On Sunday, the heat wave is expected to decrease slightly, when the daytime high drops to 96 degrees.
