Excessive heat watch in effect

Temperatures across the region may climb as high as 112 degrees Fahrenheit

RITZVILLE - An excessive heat watch is in effect from Friday afternoon, June 25, through Tuesday evening, June 2.

Dangerously hot conditions with temperatures expected to climb well above 100 degrees are expected in Ritzville, Othello, Moses Lake and throughout portions of Central, East Central, North Central, Northeast and Southeast Washington and North and Central Idaho, according to the National Weather Service out of Spokane.

They are predicting temperatures into the high 90's Friday, from 97 to 107 Saturday, and from 100 to 112 Sunday through Tuesday evening.

Overnight temperatures are expected to range from the mid 60s to mid 70s.

Extreme heat will significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities. Those in affected regions are cautioned to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, check up on relatives and neighbors, and monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for any updates on the situation.

Car interiors in hot weather can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles.
