Broncos race at Reardan

REARDAN – Lind-Ritzville cross-country runners Matthew Brown and Maeve Korthuis each finished in 13th place in their respective races at the Northeast 2B League meet in Reardan Saturday, Mar. 13.

Both seventh graders racing 2,500 meters, Brown came in at 12:22 among 19 runners in the middle school boys race; and Korthuis came in at 12:54 among 21 runners.

Winning the middle school boys race was eighth-grader Hrair Garabedian, coming in at 9:25 for St. George's, the team that took first place.

St. George's also won the middle school girls race, with sixth-grader Bella Buckner of St. George's finishing in 10:07.

Also racing for the Broncos was newcomer and eighth-grader Emmy Klewin, who finished in 16:58, ahead of some Reardan racers.

Head Coach Morgan Hunt said it has been nice for Korthuis to have another girl on the team.

"Emmy just joined last week. It has been nice to have her as an addition to the team," Hunt said Mar. 10. "She is a very hard worker, and we are really working on getting in shape since she started midway through the season."

For the high school boys 5,000 meter race, Asotin took first place, followed by Kettle Falls. Senior Easton Pomrankey finished first in 16:49.

Racing for the Broncos, freshmen Levi Hoeft finished in 47th place and Caleb Heater finished in 49th place. Often neck-and-neck, Hoeft and Heater were separated by freshman Griffin Turner of Liberty (Spangle) finishing in 25:49, just behind Hoeft at 25:47 and just ahead of Heater at 25:53. The high school boys race had a field of 59 runners.

The Broncos next race at a league meet in Spokane, Mar. 20.
