WASHTUCNA — The School District is considering going to a four-day educational week on a permanent basis starting with the 2021-22 school year.

A community forum is set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 30 to hear from the community about the possible change.

The meeting in the Washtucna High School gymnasium, 730 N.E. Booth St., will include a question-and-answer session.

Both in-person and online participation is available.

Those attending in person should arrive 15 minutes early for a temperature check and coronavirus-related questions. In-person attendees are being asked to social distance and wear a mask.

Those who would like to participate digitally can e-mail Lora Hille, [email protected], before 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 30.

In addition to the meeting, surveys will be available during parent-teacher conferences Thursday, April 2.

If approved, Washtucna wouldn't be the only school district in the state with a four-day educational week. The rural Bickleton School District has operated on a four-day week for several years.

And in nearby Oregon, several rural school districts are on four-day educational weeks.
