Broncos race for first time Saturday

Seventh-grade girl just misses top ten

ASOTIN – Lind-Ritzville's cross country team competed at a Northeast 2B League meet in Asotin, where the host team took first place for both men's varsity and men's middle school races Saturday, Feb. 27.

Kettle Falls took second place in the men's 5,000 meter varsity race, followed by Northwest Christian (Colbert) in third and Davenport in fourth.

Running for the Broncos, junior Eli Michaels came in 42nd place out of 55 runners, with a time of 21:28. He was immediately followed by the team's sole senior, Sam Michaels coming in at 21:29.

Freshmen Caleb Heater and Levi Hoeft came in 49th and 50th, respectively, with both finishing in 25:27.

Taking first place in the men's varsity race was senior Easton Pomrankey fo Kettle Falls with a time of 16:09.

The sole female runner for the Broncos, seventh-grader Maeve Korthuis finished the women's 2,000-meter middle school race in 11th place out of a field of 30, with a time of 9:39.

Eighth-grader Josie McLaughlin, whose team took first place, finished the race in 7:27.

Asotin placed second in the middle school girls' 2,000-meter race, followed by Northwest Christian (Colbert).

In the 2,000-meter men's middle school race, Reardan took second and St. George's placed third.

Bronco runner and seventh-grader Matthew Brown finished 25th out of 31, with a time of 9:49.

St. George's Hrair Garabedian, an eighth-grader, finished first in 7:03.

Lind-Ritzville seventh-grader Erik Klewin finished in 12:29.

The Broncos, coached by Morgan Hunt, next compete in a league meet in Chewelah Saturday, March 6, at 2 p.m.
