DON’T BE A HUSTLER
Many a man acquires a reputation as a “hustler” on account of a habit of poorly organized physical activity, says Fred Kelly in The Nation’s business. People usually assume, too, that the hustler is bound to make a big success. The truth is that the avearge hustler, who merely darts about like a cricket on a hot stove, doesn’t amount to much. I recall a letter carrier in my native town whom everybody regarded as a live wire. He never walked except on the verge of a run. He hustled so much with his legs instead of his head, that he was constantly obliged to retrace his steps to remedy mistakes, and this kept him hustling more than ever. Most of the great executives are not “hustlers,” but are quiet and easy going. They accomplish things not by being extremely “busy,” but by refusing to get excited.

Dealer Explains ‘Whys’ of
Building Shortage
By A.B. Seterland, Manager, White River Lumber Co.,
Ritzville Yard
To keep its people properly housed, this nation built an average of 1,000,000 housing units annually during peacetime to replace obsolete and deteriorated houses, those lost through fire or tornado, and to provide accommodations for the increasing population. But, during the four years of war, building material was diverted to buildings essential to production of food and army and navy requirements. Very few priorities were issued for residences, except in defense areas, and most of those homes are useless now.

Council Mulls Golf Headache
Ways to get the city’s golf course out of the red ink and paying its own way occupied the city council Tuesday. And they think they have an answer in a proposal made by Jim Schoesler and accepted by the city fathers. Schoesler, greenskeeper for the city, will move his family to the club house, try to beef up the business and increase greens fee income, if the city will pay him $100 a month.
