OTHELLO – Karen Potts, spokesperson for Adams County Health Department said the COVID vaccine is currently available to anyone age 65 and older, and people 50 and older who also live in a multi-generational family.

This is in addition to the people who were eligible during the initial phase, including health care workers, First Responders, people who live or work in long-term care facilities, and all other workers in health care settings who are at risk of COVID-19.

“Eventually there will be enough vaccine for everyone in Washington who wants it,” Potts said. “Please be patient and make an appointment to get vaccinated as soon as you are eligible.”

There are currently four places to get vaccinated for COVID-19 in Adams County: East Adams Rural Healthcare and Hometown Family Medicine in Ritzville; and Othello Community Hospital and Columbia Basin Health Association in Othello.

Potts reported Feb. 3 that five Othello residents and one eastern Adams County resident have died due to COVID-19. Karen Potts, spokesperson for Adams County Health Department, announced Feb. 3.

Four of the six had underlying conditions, putting them at greater risk of severe complications due to COVID-19 infection.

The deaths occurred over a six-week period during December 2020 and January 2021, bringing the total number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths in Adams County to 21.

The six recent deaths, three males and three females, were among residents ranging in age from 52 to 84. None of them were residents of long-term care facilities. All six died in a hospital setting; four in locations outside of Adams County.
