OTHELLO – The Adams County Sheriff's Office has arrested a local man in a case involving at least one body discovered in a vehicle.

Mauricio Nava-Garibay of Othello, 28, has been booked into the Adams County Jail for first-degree murder; other charges may be pending.

The arrest comes after deputies responded at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, to a call reporting a vehicle with blood on its hood in the 2200 block of Charla Road, in the Edson Tracks area.

Deputies found the vehicle and discovered a human body inside, a Sheriff's Office report said.

After securing the scene, Washington State Crime Lab Response Team was called in and came to assist with evidence collection, the report said. While processing the crime scene, the crime lab team located more possible human remains in the trunk of the vehicle.

The victims have not yet been positively identified due to the extent of the bodies condition, Sheriff Dale Wagnern said. Once identified, family will be notified prior to any other outlet.

The Adams County Sheriff's Office is being assisted by detectives and officers from many other agencies including Othello Police Department, Grant County Sheriff's Office, Washington State Patrol, Washington State Crime Lab Response Team, Moses Lake Police Department and others.

Sheriff Wagner requested anyone with any additional information to call 509-659-1122. Callers may remain anonymous.
