Sarah Alvirda Hebert

Sarah Alvirda Hebert, has passed away peacefully December 23rd, 2020 at 2:00 AM. She was 93.

Sarah was born to Milas Newton Vandine and Evelyn Gertrude Lord the 24th of May, 1927 in Elk City, Oklahoma.

After the family moved to Washington, she graduated Kennewick High School. She soon married Don Mock in Richland, WA. They had one son, Troy Michael Mock, in 1952.

In 1964, the family re-located to Vancouver, WA and she worked for the Pioneer Title Company. In 1968, Don Mock passed away.

She would marry Louis Hebert, and they would become quite a pair. They had a few horses and played a multitude of sports, so they were never still. A Winnebago, with plaid upholstery a full bar, and plenty of seating for any card game to please, completed this state of constant activity. They would take it cross-country, including long trips into Mexico.

In 1993, she and Louis moved to Ritzville, WA to be closer with her family and grandchildren.

Sarah fully embraced her life in Ritzville, attending the local high school sports games, Zion Congregational Church, and a part time job at the drug store. Everyone got to meet Sarah. And despite losing Louis in 1994, she embraced the community with open arms, as well as her neighbors. Never still, she would travel extensively to visit family in Oklahoma, Florida, as well as cruises and trips to Hawaii. These warm weather trips timed impeccably with the dropping of mercury. On her return, she would go for a ride in the feed truck to see the latest batch of calves. She often remarked on their big eyelashes and how fast they jumped. A good yodel, Hank Thompson tune, cornbread out of the cast iron. . .she truly enjoyed the simpler things in life, like most folks of her generation.

In 2013, she took flight to Weiser, Idaho, following her recently retired son and his wife to remain closer to their grandchildren and great-grandchildren! There, she took up residence at The Cottages, continuing to be neighborly and active in church and local events.

She is survived by her son, Troy Mock, grandchildren Jennie (Conley) Walker, Louis Mock, as well as great-grandchildren Claire and John Walker. She is preceded in death by her parents Milas Newton Vandine and Evelyn Gertrude Lord, her sister Nadine Lloyd. The family would like to thank the caregivers of The Cottages in Weiser, Idaho and Rose Garden Estates in Ritzville, Washington for their care and dedication.

At Sarah’s request there will be no formal services. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Sarah’s name to the American Cancer Society.
