RITZVILLE – It's looking like Adams County will have two new commissioners next year.

Following tonight's prelimiary tally in the general election, Jay Weise of Othello leads in the Adams County Commissioner District No. 2 race with 2,402 votes to Ken Johnson's 810 votes.

There were 39 write-in votes for other candidates in the first count.

“I appreciate everybody's support,” Weise said. “I look forward to serving the county and doing the best we can.”

“I just wish Jay the best,” Johnson said, adding he didn't have any other immediate plans. “I will finish up my year that I have on the (Othello) school board, and see where it goes from there.”

Johnson also lives in the Othello area

The winning candidate will replace retiring Commission Chairman Roger Hartwig of Othello.

In the Adams County Commissioner District No. 1 race, challenger Dan Blankenship is leading incumbent John Marshall.

Blankenship has 2,116 votes to Marshall's 1,081 votes; there were 42 write-in votes for other candidates.

“I am pretty grateful, pretty humble, at the level of support the voters showed tonight, and I am excited to get to work for them in January,” Blankenship said.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as Adams County Commissioner, and I am proud of my efforts and the work that has been accomplished," Marshall said. "Thank you for the opportunity."
