Golfers raise $12,000 for firefighters, deputies

OTHELLO – The first-ever Red & Blue Benefit Tourney to raise funds for the Adams County Sheriff's Department and the Adams County Volunteer Firefighters was a whopping success Saturday, Oct. 2.

Othello Golf Club Manager Rick Wolfs said funds would be split evenly, with both groups receiving a check for $6,000.

Wolfs said 72 people showed up to golf in the event that began with a shotgun start at noon and lasted until almost 5 p.m. Wolfs said there was one team of volunteer firefighters; otherwise, teams were made up of mostly community members.

"We had some out-of-towners, too, from Tri-Cities, Moses Lake and the west side," Wolfs said, adding that most of the advertising was word of mouth.

The games were followed by a spaghetti dinner.

Wolfs said half the entry fee of $100 per participant went to donations, and the rest was raised by people simply donating.

"We had a great turnout, and great support, so we will most likely do it again," Wolfs said. "We usually have a Hunters Open this weekend, but decided to do this instead."

Othello Golf Club is located at 2269 W. Mockingbird Lane.
