Local Sprague resident publishes first book

Sprague resident Patrick Whipple displays his recently published book, "The Evolving History of Sprague (Once Hoodooville) and The Surrounding Area." The book is published by Channeled Scablands Press, Sprague, ISBN 978-1-64970-332-3. Next to Whipple is a lamp he made; the shade carved from a locust tree he cut down in his yard, and the base created from a piece of driftwood he collected years ago.
SPRAGUE – Retired school administrator Patrick Whipple
fulfilled an item on his "bucket list" when he published a book on local history earlier this summer.
A 1973 Sprague High School alum who retired in 2017 as the superintendent of the Sprague School District, Whipple said it was on his "to do" list to write a book about some of the stories his grandfather and father told him.
"I've had them in my head for 20, 30, 40 years - a long time," Whipple said. "My dad always told me he was going to write some of them down when he retired, but he never did. So I had to go pretty much on memory...
