Assault and arson suspect taken into custody

OTHELLO – A man wanted for alleged involvement in an assault and arson was taken into custody Monday afternoon, Aug. 24.

According to Adams County Sheriff Dale Wagner, Thomas Landon Hoover, born Feb. 29, 1978, was arrested by the Adams County Tactical Response Team in Othello around 1:30 p.m.

Wagner said officials were still working on probable cause statements as The Journal print edition went to press, but expected charges of arson and assault to be filed, although he did not know to what degree.

Sheriff’s Office deputies were en route to a residence where Hoover was suspected of being involved in an assault, records show. He allegedly fled prior to deputies’ arrival.

According to officials, Hoover fled across open areas near Sutton Road, off McManamon Road, and is suspected of lighting several fires as he ran south.

Hoover was located and taken into custody by a mobile unit with the multiagency Tactical Response Team.

Local law enforcement was assisted by local landowners, who spotted the suspect hiding, and led deputies to his location, officials said.

“We are so grateful for our community in the help they give,” Sheriff Wagner said.

“Great work by all,” Ritzville Police Chief Dave McCormick said.

Adams County Fire Protection District No. 5 responded to fight the fires.
