Local People Figure in Lind
Shooting Scrape
A shooting occured at Lind last Sunday night. It seems that some man came to the home of Mrs. Deaton in Lind and asked to see her son Howard. According to Mrs. Deaton he threatened the life of her son, and when she refused to admit him and told him her son was not there, he claimed that he was and added, "I'm going to kill him before sunrise." Mrs. Deaton then seized a revolver out of her room, fired through the screen door frightening the man away. It is alleged that Howard's wife, who was Mrs. Florence Maurer, had left a week ago, going off with another man, presumably to Spokane.

Farmers Recover from injuries
at local hospital
Lester Pfannekuchen and Leroy Kembel, Ritzville farmers, are recovering from two of the week's most serious harvest accidents at Ritzville general hospital. Pfannekuchen sustained a broken nose, broken collarbone and deep facial lacerations and bruises when a tractor he was cranking backfired last Friday evening. Kembel suffered numerous bruises when he was knocked from the top of a combine by a telephone wire while crossing the Washtucna highway at the intersection with the Pfannekuchen road a short distance past the golf course yesterday afternoon.

Downtown Fire Caught Early
Night City Patrolman James A. Kennedy was driving down Main Avenue Wednesday evening when he spotted a puff of smoke rolling off the awning at Ritzville Drug. Co. Stopping his squad car, Patrolman Kennedy took an extinguisher from it and attempted to put out the blaze. Thom Kembel, Ritzville volunteer fireman, happened by at that moment and noticed the proceedings. He raced around the corner, and reappeared with a fire engine.

Area harvest continues after
Monday's rain
A spattering of rain measuring as much as two-tenths in some areas of the county slowed or stopped wheat harvest at some stations while others were unaffected. Only two of Lind's Union Elevator stations reported no activity Monday, the Pizarro and Pence elevators. "Everything else was going," said Randy Roth.
