Weather Service forecasts 'dangerous heat'

SPOKANE — The National Weather Service is projecting temperatures to reach low triple digits this week.

According to a July 27 news release, the high temperatures could be coupled with low humidity and breezy conditions — a recipe that could lead to increased fire danger in Central and Eastern Washington. Temperatures in the Columbia Basin should exceed 100 degrees all week, with high 90s forecast for the Palouse and Spokane areas — touching 100 degrees on Thursday.

Thunderstorms are possible for most of the region during the evening and early Thursday morning. Breezy conditions are forecast for Friday.

In dealing with excessive heat, drink plenty of water, dress appropriately, avoid strenuous outdoor activity if possible between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and plan on taking extended shaded breaks if you have to work outside. Seek air conditioned buildings and remember to keep pets out of parked cars.
