Rain causes cemetery grounds to settle

RITZVILLE - Public Works crew are busy re-seeding and leveling areas in the city cemetery where increased rainfall has caused the ground to settle in certain spots throughout the grounds.

"If you see exposed dirt here and there, nothing nefarious is going on," clerk-treasurer Julie Flyckt posted on the city's Facebook page Thursday, July 2.

Public Works Director Dave Breazeale said the problem was nothing new.

"The ground settles up there all the time. We are constantly maintaining it," Breazeale said Monday, July 6. "It's an ongoing project. It's more so now, after all the rain, but it's always a continuous project that never stops."

Ned Burnett is the lead on the project.
