Suspect arrested in homicide

Getaway made to Oregon in stolen vehicle

TROUTDALE – Grayson D.W. Morris, 26, has been taken into custody in connection with the Thursday morning, May 14, homicide that took place at 109 W 7th Ave in Ritzville.

The name of the homicide victim has not yet been released.

According to Adams County Sheriffs Department staff, Oregon State Police advised Morris was detained off Highway 184 near Troutdale, Ore., following an exchange of gunfire between Morris and law enforcement. Morris was injured, and taken to a local hospital but authorities have not yet released his current condition. Law enforcement provided first aid at the scene.

Morris is not yet listed as being in custody at the Iverness Jail in Mulnomah County. Ritzville Police Chief Dave McCormick confirmed Morris was taken into custody, but could not yet provide more details. Adams County Sheriff Dale Wagner has not yet responded to a call from the Journal.

Morris allegedly was driving a stolen vehicle from the Ritzville area, which Oregon State Police reported attempting to stop using spikes and pit maneuver. Morris allegedly then left the vehicle and car-jacked a different vehicle.

Oregon State Police reported the exchange of gunfire occurred at milepost 18 on Hwy. 184.

Adams County Sheriff's Office, assisting Ritzville Police in the search for Morris, advised he left the scene of the crime in a white SUV.

The home in which the crime took place has been owned by Walter Glen Ivy, Jr., since Dec. 30, 2019.
