Morris accused of killing father

RITZVILLE - Grayson D.W. Morris, 26, has been arrested on suspicion of killing his father, Douglas Morris, at approximately 5:30 a.m. this morning, Thursday, May 14.

According to Adams County Sheriff Dale Wagner, Grayson Morris arrived at a residence at 109 W. 7th Ave in Ritzville in a stolen white 2019 Ford Escape.

Wagner said Morris, armed with a long rifle and wearing a Carhart jacket with a hood over his head, exited the stolen vehicle and proceeded into the residence.

"Grayson kicked the front door of his father's residence in, and proceeded to his father's bedroom, where his father was sleeping," Wagner reported. "Inside the bedroom, Grayson fires multiple shots at Douglas from the rifle, striking him several times. Douglas died at the residence."

Wagner reported several witnesses inside the residence confirmed much of the incident.

"After the shooting occurred, Grayson exited the house and re-entered the stolen vehicle with the rifle, and left the area driving west on Seventh Ave," Wagner said, adding Ritzville Police responded and secured the crime scene. Adams County Sheriff's office was called to assist.

Ritzville Police Chief Dave McCormick said they responded to the call around 5:39 a.m., after a neighbor who heard gun shots called it in.

Washington State Crime Lab Response Team assisted with the collection of evidence at the residence.

"Grayson was later located traveling on I-84 toward Portland, Oregon, near Troutdale, where he was taken into custody after an incident in Multnomah County," Wagner reported.

According to Multnomah Sheriff's Office, Morris was apprehended near milepost 18 after a police pursuit. An exchange of gunfire between Morris and Oregon State Police Troopers left Morris injured, with law enforcement providing first aid, before Morris was taken to a local hospital.

Morris was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center at 2:45 p.m. that same day, May 14. He faces several felony charges: four charges of unlawful use of a weapon; robbery; unlawful use of a motor vehicle; attempt to elude by vehicle; and four charges of attempted murder.

Bail amounts are set at $20,000 for the combined charges of unlawful use of a weapon; $250,000 for robbery; $5,000 for unlawful use of a motor vehicle; $5,000 for attempting to elude by vehicle; and $250,000 for each of the attempted murder charges.

Ritzville Police, with assistance from the Adams County Sheriff's office, will continue to investigate this situation. More information will be released as it becomes available, Wagner said.

The Multnomah County Detention Center is located at 11540 NE Inverness Dr., Portland, Ore.

The home the homicide occurred in was purchased by Walter Glen Ivy, Jr. Dec. 30, 2019 from Timothy and Tammy Garner, according to Adams County records.
