Improvement projects on tap for Lind

LIND – The town is getting a grant for water infrastructure improvements.

During the April 28 Town Council meeting, Patrick Sheehy of Century West Engineering reported the state Department of Health approved the 2020 Community Development Block Grant Water Improvement Project.

Sheehy said the Cemetery Water Line Project contract has been executed, and Century West Engineering and C&E Trenching are now working on a pre-construction schedule.

The council also heard about other public works projects during the meeting.

Steve Nelson, also with Century West Engineering, added that he is working on a grant application for Geographic Information System mapping.

Nelson said the USDA may have a grant to help cover costs for the Town Hall’s roof and entryway; and if not, he will apply for another grant.

When asked by Councilman Richard Baldwin about a gap between the street and bridge on Van Marter Street, Nelson said he would look into findings from the most recent Adams County bridge inspection report.

On another project, Mayor Paula Bell said Arrowhead Roofing did more measurements on the roof last week, and Arctic Lighting and Lorri Kirstein from Avista would be preparing an estimate for new lighting in the Town Hall.

In other business, the Town Council heard that:

Consolidated Disposal Services Inc. will be providing a free dump day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 16. Mattresses and large furniture accepted between noon and 2 p.m. only.

That it will cost an estimated $12,000-$15,000 for a new cattleguard at the airport entry. Bell will continue to do more research.

Flowers ordered for the planters should arrive in time for Mother’s Day.

Councilwoman Kathy Vedder reported that no one is living in her trailer parked on the side of her yard.

Councilwoman Rose Elkington said she wants to amend the animal ordinance to include dogs being picked up in town that do not belong to a town resident, will still require a fine be paid before being returned to the owner.

Bell said the resident requesting additional street lighting has been assited by Avista with an additional pole placed on their property.

The next Lind Town Council meeting will be at 7 p.m. May 12.
