Othello man arrested in shooting

OTHELLO — Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a local man in connection with a shooting.

Cesar Garza, 49, was arrested for allegedly shooting a pedestrian in the foot Friday, March 27. Garza was booked into Adams County jail for second-degree assault.

Also booked were Jaspe Janna Rodriguez, 34, and Alejandro H. Ramos, 24, for suspicion of unlawful possession of a firearm.

According to the Sheriff's Office, deputies executed a search warrant in the 2200 block of Seiloff Road, in the Edson Tracks area, after an adult male pedestrian walking down the side of the roadway was shot. The injury was not life-threatening.

Escaped inmate captured

Also on Friday, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office K9 team assisted several other agencies in capturing 32-year-old Fernando Gustavo Castenada-Sandoval following a five-day manhunt.

Castenada-Sandoval, a convicted sex offender, was the last of six Yakima County Jail escapees to be returned to the jail.

A total of 14 prisoners escaped the county jail March 23, with eight immediately apprehended and five others remaining at large after the first night, records show.

Castenada-Sandoval was captured at a residence near the corner of South Wapato and McDonald roads in Wapato when a crime-stoppers tip lead law enforcement agencies there.

“I am incredibly proud of the work our men and women did over the past week to pursue, capture and return to justice the escaped prisoners,” U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Washington Craig Thayer said, adding the operation was a success because of the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies involved.
