RITZVILLE — Lind-Ritzville School Board members recognized high school Principal Kevin Terris, middle school Principal Darrell Lembcke and elementary school Principal Cindy Deska as recipients of the Above and Beyond award at the March 23 board meeting.
“We wanted to acknowledge our three principals for all their outstanding work they’ve been doing in this closure,” Superintendent Don Vanderholm said. “They’ve really done some amazing things.”
Vanderholm said most of the discussion in the meeting, conducted as a telephone conference call, revolved around the coronavirus pandemic, with 5 cases in the county.
“We talked about how the lunch was going and the routes. Yesterday was the first day of delivering the lunches, and things seemed to go well,” Vanderholm said, adding the meal delivery would continue through spring break until April 24 or longer if schools remained closed.
“At first, we had about a 50%-60% response, but people can opt in anytime. So, we still want to offer that,” Vanderholm said.
The district is offering breakfast and lunches for all youth ages 0-18 years in the districts.
Anyone wanting to be added to the list can call and leave a message.
The school district is also offering child care options for first responders, health care workers, pharmacy and grocery store workers.
Vanderholm also discussed a meeting he attended with hospital administration “to prepare for any worse case scenarios related to the outbreak, and any supplies we might be able to pull together for them.”
