Lind-Ritzville Schools' music department holding annual winter concerts

With winter break fast approaching, Lind-Ritzville Schools’ music department is hosting its annual winter concerts. Dec 9 was the Ritzville K-4 concert. Dec. 11 was Lind’s concert featuring students in grades K-8. Finally on Dec. 19, the Ritzville fifth grade band and the Lind-Ritzville High School band will perform at Gilson Gym in Ritzville at 6 p.m.

Jennifer York, who teaches band in both Lind and Ritzville for students fifth grade and above, says the concert on Dec. 19 will be a lot of fun because it will give the audience a look at the very beginning and end of the school’s band program.

“We start teaching band in fifth grade,” York said. “The unique thing about this concert is that it’s the very beginners, my fifth graders, first, and then we jump right to the high school band. So it’s like seeing the dawning of the ages to where my goals from them are. It’s fun to watch.”

York says the concert will feature music that will fit the skill level of the two bands.

“The fifth graders will play a very basic set featuring Hot Cross Buns and Jingle Bells,” York said. “The high school band is playing some pretty hefty pieces. We are playing Copper Mountain Legend. Then we are also playing Chant and Capriccio, which is more on the classical side of things. And then our Christmas contribution to the program is called “Santa’s Big Adventure.”

Admission to the school concert is free.
