A window was broken during the burglary of the Pastime Bar and Grill in Ritzville Nov. 7. Police have made an arrest.

The Pastime Bar and Grill in downtown Ritzville was burglarized early in the early morning of Nov. 7. Ritzville Police Chief Dave McCormick confirmed that Walker Banry, 20, of Ritzville, has been arrested in connection to the break in.

Pastime owner Aimee Guiles told The Journal some alcohol had been stolen, but that at this time, she is unsure how much.

Guiles says her alarm system at the bar sounded and the Adams County Sheriff’s Office’s dispatch service was notified. Ritzville Police Sergeant Mark Cameron responded.

The Journal obtained a copy of the Probable Cause Affidavit from the Adams County Clerk’s office. The court document includes a sworn statement from Cameron.

Cameron says when he met Guiles, the side window to the bar was broken. While Cameron was talking to Guiles, an employee who worked the night before arrived and said he had reason to believe Banry may be involved and may need medical attention. Cameron writes that the employee helped him locate Banry and that Banry was hurt, so he transported him to the hospital.

Cameron wrote he could smell alcohol on Banry so he confirmed his date of birth with dispatch and discovered he was 20.

Cameron also found a piece of evidence on Banry that matched something he discovered at the bar. He placed him under arrest and booked him into the Adams County Jail on charges of second degree burglary and minor in possession of alcohol by consumption.

Banry had his first court appearance later the same day. Barrett Scudder was appointed to serve as his attorney. The court found probable cause existed and ruled that Banry could be released on personal recognizance.

Guiles says she is impressed with how quickly law enforcement made an arrest.

“Thanks to the Adams County Sheriff’s dispatch and the Ritzville Police Department for responding so quickly,” Guiles said.

The Journal's Melody Bartlett contributed to this report.
