Lady Broncos go 3-1 in eight-day, four-match stretch

The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Lady Broncos volleyball team faced another tough stretch last week, playing four games in eight days. The Lady Broncos went 3-1 during that period, winning all three league matches while dropping a non-league match.

LRS head coach Cari Galbreath knew ahead of time that her team’s Oct. 8 non-league match against Tri-Cities Prep would be a tough one.

“They are a really great program and great competition for us,” Galbreath said before the match.

She was right. TCP’s Emily Dickson had 18 kills and the Jaguars beat the Lady Broncos in straight sets, 25-17, 25-20, 25-18. Eliza Galbreath had five kills and two blocks for LRS. Taylor Galbreath had nine assists and three aces.

The Lady Broncos would not lose another set after that match. They went on the road for a rematch against Upper Columbia Academy in a league contest. LRS had swept UCA on Sept. 24 and history repeated itself on Oct. 10 as the Broncos won 25-19, 25-16, 25-7.

Taylor Galbreath had 18 assists and 12 aces for the Lady Broncos. Eliza Galbreath had six kills and a block.

The Lady Broncos stayed on the road for an Oct. 12 match with Asotin. It was the first matchup between the two teams this season. Taylor Galbreath had 15 assists and the Lady Broncos shutout the Panthers 25-14, 25-16, 25-13. Mackenzie Stein had four kills for Asotin.

The Lady Broncos returned home for an Oct. 12 match with Tekoa-Rosalia. LRS swept TR for the second time this season 25-16, 25-18, 25-13.

Eliza Galbreath and Dakota Killian led the Lady Broncos’ attack, each recording seven kills in the match. Eliza also led the team with three blocks. Taylor Galbreath notched seven aces and 14 assists in the match, while Ellie Gering tallied up 10 digs for LRS.

The Lady Broncos will now defend their three-match win streak with three more home league matches to close the season. They face Asotin on Oct. 19, Colfax on Oct. 22 and Liberty on Oct. 24.

The Lady Broncos have a league record of 7-2 and an overall record of 9-5. They currently sit in third place in the Northeast 2B South Division, and a win over Asotin would guarantee at least a top three finish in league play. LRS finished the 2018 season with a league record of 5-5.
