Riding events were all the rage and drew some of the biggest applause from the packed crowd during the Ritzville Rodeo over Labor Day weekend.

The 50th edition of the Ritzville Rodeo took place September 30-31 and competitors came from across the Northwest and beyond to compete.

In the bareback competition, Cooper Wicks of Enumclaw took the top prize with a score of 75. Austin Krogh of Newport took the saddle bronco riding event, scoring a 77.

2019 Ritzville Rodeo Queen Rachel Nygren carries the American flag during the opening of the first night of the rodeo on Aug. 30.

Tye Jordan of Canby, Oragon, won the tie down roping with a time of 8.220, while Amanda Hodges of Homedale, Idaho, won the breakaway roping with time of 2.920. Closing out the roping events were Jason Stewart and Calgary Smith of Oregon winning the team roping event with a time of 5.620.

In steer wrestling, JW Crenshaw had the top time of 5.640. Ryan Barnett of Moses Lake won the barrel race with a time of 16.657.

No rider finished in bull riding.

A scary moment occurred on Friday night when pickup man Dylan Beck from Warden was injured while attempting a help a rider off a bronco. Beck's horse fell, and appeared to land on Beck. Beck laid motionless on the ground for several minutes while paramedics checked him out and decided to take him to the hospital in the ambulance.

Beck was awake and alert later that evening. He didn't have any broken bones, but was believed to have suffered a concussion.
