Brief: Gilson Gym to be closed Aug. 12-18 for repairs to address asbestos

The Lind-Ritzville High School’s Gilson Gym will close from August 12-18 for repairs, Athletic Director Gregg Whitmore informed The Journal on Sunday.

Contractors will be performing abatement work to remove asbestos from the gym. Cleaning of the ducts will require the building to be closed, but Superintendent Don Vanderholm wrote in an email that a quick turn around is expected.

The gym has been used during the summer as the site for the summer weight training program for LRS athletes. Whitmore said the repair work will not cause the workouts to be canceled.

“We will move the workouts to the grade school gym or track,” Whitmore said.

Thirty-four students are registered for the summer weight training program.
