Lind Town Council still concerned about festival planned for late August

Last month, Diane Kennedy told the Lind Town Council that she was waiting on its approval to take the next steps toward planning the Adams County Harvest Festival. The council gave her approval, conditioned on its members’ concerns being met by one of the two July meetings.

Jump forward two weeks. The first July meeting, held on July 9, has passed, and the concerns have not been met. The final council meeting of the month is July 23.

In the June 25 meeting, the council told Kenendy that she needed to show proof of insurance, show the WSDOT permit and have people in place to direct traffic and detours.

The motion that was passed required the insurance and permit to be shown in a July meeting and the people to direct traffic and detours to be in place by the time the event starts, or the council would be able to stop it from going forward.

The council was also concerned about security being headed by Kennedy’s brother. Kennedy agreed to have her brother submit a resume. An unsigned letter was delivered to town hall. Councilman Richard Baldwin was not satisfied with the letter.

“This letter means nothing to me,” Baldwin said. “I don’t see anything about credentials. We’ve asked to see several things … If I’m composing this letter, I’m going to sign my signature there.”

Other council members expressed concerns with the security and said they would prefer a uniformed company to provide security. Mayor Paula Bell reminded the council that Kennedy said she can not afford that. Councilwoman Kathy Vedder then said that is something the council should require next year.

The council felt Kennedy may need a reminder of what’s required by the next meeting. Bell said that she would email Kennedy on Wednesday.

The Adams County Harvest Festival would take place on August 24 in Lind.
