Duane Ruser

Duane Ruser, 83, of Marissa, IL; born on September 30, 1935 in Holstein, IA; passed away on Monday, December 17, 2018 at the Freeburg Care Center in Freeburg, IL.

Mr. Ruser was a newspaper publisher. He and his late wife Dee, owned and operated several newspapers, including The Marissa Messenger from 1976 to 1988; during the same time The New Athens Journal-Press; The Ritzville Journal from 1988 to 2006. Duane enjoyed playing golf, fishing and cooking. He was a member of the both the Marissa and Ritzville Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents – William and Anna, nee Stofferhan, Ruser. His wife – Dolores "Dee", nee Metz, Ruser whom he married on December 5, 1974 and who passed away on March 1, 2008. One brother – Dean Ruser.

He is survived by one son – Steven (Terri) Terry of Holstein, IA. His step-children – Shelly (Michael) Minks of Marissa, IL; Denise (John) Rolape of Herrin, IL; Doug (Kelly) Hokeness of Okawville, IL. His grandchildren – Chad (Rachel) Mulholland of Goreville, IL; Travis (Lauren) Cripps of Kansas City, MO; Emily Cripps of Herrin, IL; Bradley (Becky) Minks of Marissa, IL; Amy Lohman of Marissa, IL; Brandon Hokeness of Collinsville, IL; Jacob Hokeness of Mascoutah, IL; Emma Hokeness of Okawville, IL. His great-grandchildren – Corbin; Conner; Aubrey; Sawyer; Paisley; Carter; Briel.

Memorials may be made to the Freeburg Care Center.
