Ritzville man killed in multi-vehicle collision on I-90

Jacob Carl Harder IV, 29, died in a multi-vehicle collision 19 miles west of Spokane at 9 p.m. on July 30.

A Ritzville resident, Harder was driving westbound on I-90 when his vehicle struck a second vehicle from behind, according to a Washington State Patrol report. The impact caused Harder’s 2010 Ford Ranger to travel left into center median, where the pickup rotated and rolled.

Harder’s vehicle came to rest in the eastbound lanes of travel were it was struck by a 2007 Peterblit 379 tractor with two trailers. Harder was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the second vehicle, Steven Martin, was injured and transported to AMR to Deaconess Hospital after losing control of the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche he was driving, traveling over the guardrail, down a hill and into an embankment.

The passenger in Martin’s vehicle, Debra Rainey, was also taken to Deaconess via ambulance.

The driver of the semi-truck, Brian Barrie of Othello, was not injured in the collision.

WSP reported the cause of the collision is still under investigation. All of the individuals involved in the collision were wearing restraints.
