Broncos track team preps for postseason competition

The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague track and field team had two more successful outings over the course of a week.

The team first competed in the NE 2B League Championships on May 1 at Colfax High School.

The LRS women’s team finished sixth with 56.5 points, led again by seniors Rachel Schell and Rose Melville.

Schell sprinted to a first and second place finish during the meet, while Melville competed in the distance races to earn two second place finishes and third place.

The LRS men’s team placed 12th with 16 points, led by senior Jack Anderson. Anderson ended the day with one fourth place finish, two sixth place finishes and a seventh place finish.

The Broncos ended the week at the Ron Vanderholm Invitational on May 4 at Royal High School.

The women’s team tied for sixth with 40.5 points, while the men’s team earned 5.5 points.

Schell and Melville, who recorded top five finishes in five events, led the Broncos again during the meet. Kiel also joined the senior-scoring push by securing sixth place in high jump and eighth in 100-meter hurdles.
